Reflections from a Gymnastics assistant coaching course
1st June 2023
A guest post from Kath Maguire. Kath is the parent of one of our club’s gymnasts. She asked about doing some volunteering a couple of months ago and whether there was a course she could do. Here are her reflections from the day. “I’ve been thinking about volunteering for a while now but as it’s […]

Practical workshop at DAASM

We are happy to run courses for your club or school. This can be specific workshops for your athletes, or as part of a CPD programme for your staff and sports coaches.

The environment the tutor had created was of the highest order for candidates to develop and learn. Enabling the qualities of the candidates knowledge, practical performance and understanding of the requirements of a coach to be shown.

Pete Amos, External Verifier Nov 2017.

P.E. Teachers or personal trainers who are looking to gain additional qualifications would also benefit (read here for tips).

The course was thoroughly enjoyable. It was useful, informative and well taught. I’ve used many of the skills and coaching points I learned with a range of athletes since, as well as in my own training, to great effect.” Caroline R.

We deliver courses that include:

  • Educational Gymnastics: a 1-day workshop for teachers and sports coaches who are looking to improve the physical literacy of their pupils and athletes. Builds up basic skills using guided discovery, aimed at developing each person individually.

A big thank you for James running the Educational Gymnastics. As always stimulating, educational and inspiring. After 8 years of training with James, I always come away with a fresh way of doing things and then reviewing what I do.” Mark Westway, Level 3 S&C coach.

  • Invasion Games: A 1-day school-based workshop for teachers to observe whilst their class takes part. Shows how to include every pupil, develop basic skills and develop overall game sense throughout their Primary school years.

  • Rugby Ground Based Mobility Workshop: A 2-hour practical seminar that can be done at your club.  Learn how to help your forwards: Build the capability and capacity to play low and drop body height; Get off the ground quickly and accelerate; Land and fall safely to reduce the impact.

I believe James’s ground-based conditioning concepts are superb. The content would be equally valuable to rugby coaches, strength & conditioning coaches and medical staff returning players to full training.” Dean Benton, Ex-head of Sport Science, England Rugby

Client Testimonials

Helen Farr
The access to expert advice on training and coaching in the STS has been extremely beneficial when guiding Helen (15) through different stages of her physical development. Time is very precious and especially as busy parents of even busier teenagers, we need all the help we can get. As well as following the programme, it has been really useful to dip into certain topics as and when situations occur. Advice on how to prevent and counteract knee problems was certainly helpful when Helen started complaining that ‘her knees were hurting’ directly after competitions.
