I am currently reading the up to date literature on trunk strength training. Mainly from the US, there appears to be more research being done on exercises relevant for strikers\ throwers. One interesting point is that increased trunk strength will lessen the forces on the shoulder and elbows. Another is that throwing medicine balls that are too heavy leads to increased balance and strength, but decreased throwing velocities.

I will put this all together once I have finished and publish it.

Compare that to the recent Welsh rugby results who have a new coaching team and have kick started the competition within the squad in a matter of weeks, not 5 years!

Working with some rugby players on their agility I noticed how some of them do artificial movements in the hope that it makes them more agile. What I mean by artificial is a pre programmed series of steps\ head movements \ shoulder shimmies, rather than natural reactions.

Steve Morris pointed this out in my own movements, and I have used his underlying principles in going back to basic movement patterns and then training them. We will then work on putting in unplanned scenarios and small game situations to work on the patterns under pressure.
