Winning Matters by Frank Dick- Book Review

Posted On Wednesday, 20th April 2011 at 07:57

winning mattersFrank Dick has written a great book for Coaches, business leaders and aspiring Winners from all walks of life.

Winning Matters is an in depth look at what makes a winner. It has been written from the perspective of a Coach who has worked with athletes and has successfully transferred this to the business world.

In his own words:

"Winning is being better today than yesterday- everyday."

The book covers a lot of areas including:

Coaching

Dealing with Change

Leadership

Decision Making

Learning

Teamship

Planning

Design

Motivation.

Each chapter offers an overview of what is involved, anecdotes from sport and how they relate to business and then a guide on how you can use the information. This can be quite heavy going in places- the book is not short on detail- so I recommend you read one chapter, then reflect, rather than going for it in one sitting.

The chapters are broken up with motivational quotes and diagrams, which helps reading. I especially like the reading lists at the end on what has helped Frank come to his decisions.

A great book for those Coaches looking to lead others, and for people who want to make a difference in their own walk of life.

This is a follow up to his previous classic Winning (for younger readers nothing to do with Charlie Sheen) that was published some 18 years ago. That was a shorter, easier read and was useful for dipping into and getting ideas.

I have been lucky enough to meet Frank on a few occasions, and he is always thought provoking and inspirational. Both books are worth reading, and get along to see Frank speak if you can.
