Young athletes are under time and money pressures, with either too much competition, or poorly designed training programmes leading to injuries.
The first workshop looked at how to incorporate 5 key exercises regularly to help bullet proof your body.

On a very cold day with a biting East wind, young athletes from around Devon and Somerset came to the second Athlete Support Day hosted at Exeter University.
The first part of the day was spent getting the teenagers to understand how their bodies moved and balanced.

The Excelsior Athletic Development Centre opens in January 2013 with our first Athlete Support Day at Exeter University.

Periodisation is the term given to the practice of breaking down an athlete’s conditioning plan into specific phases of training. By varying the emphasis of the training at regular time intervals, periodisation attempts to produce optimal gains in strength, power and endurance.

Are you reading anything good at the moment? In this age of surfing, texting and tweeting, it is probably more important than ever to encourage the reading of books.
The concentration of thought required to finish a book is a useful skill. The stimulation of ideas and imagination generated from reading are needed in life more than ever.

For many of our athletes Hindu press ups and Hindu squats are a regular feature of our training. I got these from today's guest author Tom Kurz. He is an example of a Coach practitioner who sets a great example to others. His book "Science of sports training" is an excellent and very readable resource.
