I am pleased to announce that on Saturday 6 people passed the level 1 Strength and Conditioning for Sport Course, and 2 passed the level 2.
There were some excellent examples of coaching practice on the day, using skills and knowledge gained from the previous workshops, their studies and their own experiences.

The tragic events of Friday night impacted upon the delivery and organisation of the Level 1 Strength and Conditioning course I ran at Taunton RFC last weekend. The staff of the Club and some of the attendees had witnessed the events and were shaken by it. The police and emergency services were exhausted and stretched from dealing with the crash and also the collapsed wall and flood in Bridgwater on the same night. They closed parts of the Club down to allow their investigation to continue.

Is a question I get asked a lot. Having recently advertised for several positions (paid and unpaid) I was appalled at the standard of application. Here are some of the key errors that were made:

Great newsFor all of you who have taken one of the Level 1 or Level 2 Strength and Conditioning Coaching Courses, they are now accredited with 20 points for REPS.
For those of you undecided about what course you are going to take, maybe this will help.

Level 2 Strength and Conditioning review- How much information is too much?
I saw some great examples of coaching on a recent level 2 S&C course assessment day.
I had some interesting feedback from some of the candidates: they felt I had given them too much information.
This was over and above what was required to get the certificate.

Well done to the Coaches who passed their level 1 S&C coaching course at the weekend.
One of the main pieces of feedback I gave was the importance of:
PLAN
DO
REVIEW
It is very hard to become a good coach without doing all 3 - and regularly.

Thanks to everyone who attended the Level 1 Strength and Conditioning for Sport Coaching Course this weekend. A great bunch of enthusiastic young people. (Oh and me and Malcolm Hanson the External Verifier who are not so young).
A few points and themes emerged from the course, as they always do, generated by the participants.
When asked what Strength and Conditioning meant to them, a couple of phrases popped up:
"Enabling the body to cope with the demands of the sport."
"Helping athletes reach their potential."

Well done to all the coaches who passed their Level 2 Strength and Conditioning Coaching course last Saturday. Interesting to see the speed and agility sessions being delivered in the snow, it certainly made change of direction more difficult for the participants.
There were some good examples of coaching throughout the day, and one pleasing comment was that the coaches had all benefitted and learned from each other and the feedback they received.
Thanks to Nathan Kelly for his input on the day as an assessor too. More courses and the CPD workshops to be announced soon.
