Today is not only St George's Day, it is Shakespeare's birthday and hence the chosen date of World Book Night.
Each year this organisation encourages readers, libraries and schools to give away 1 million books to people who are not usually readers.

A sore throat has knocked me off track from some of my goals set for 2013. I made the decision not to train for three days this week and aimed to get better first.
"You can't get well and get fit at the same time." is a mantra I tell my athletes, so I had to listen to my own advice for a change.

Are you reading anything good at the moment? In this age of surfing, texting and tweeting, it is probably more important than ever to encourage the reading of books.
The concentration of thought required to finish a book is a useful skill. The stimulation of ideas and imagination generated from reading are needed in life more than ever.

Most parents, coaches and PE Teachers are extremely busy, trying to juggle endless commitments of work and looking after their kids. The last thing they have time to do is to work out exactly what strength and conditioning programmes they should be delivering that day.

A number of books have appeared recently in the USA and the UK purporting to explain the development of talent and excellence in the sporting and business environments. A common feature of these books is that they are written by journalists,who attempt to deal with complex scientific concepts.

It seems to be the time to read more books, not sure whether that is due to rubbish tv, more people on holiday, or less email traffic. Here are some of mine.
"How to help Children find the Champion within themselves". David HemeryThis is a great little book, easy to read, but with valuable insights into coaching young people. A must read for the enthusiastic parent, or coach of yongsters.

This book was written over 30 years ago but it is extremely relevant in its portrayal of training methods for runners and hurdlers.
At the time John Jesse was ahead of his field in using resistance training methods to condition both himself and his athletes.
