Repeated jumps versus single jumps

Posted On Tuesday, 24th August 2010 at 05:42

Bondachurek highlights research from Eastern Europe that shows that performing repeated jumps is more effective in improving sporting performance than doing single jumps for distance.

Working on this principle with a group of Athletes last week a couple of things need to be in place: Balance and strength.

Without both of these, the jumps will not be effective. The athletes who have been working with me for a year, have enough of both to do repeated hops rapidly over 15 metres.

I am not an advocate of the "you must squat 2x bodyweight before you do pliometrics" school of thought. I prefer observation and common sense and developing the athletes' ability to produce power rapidly and with various cues from the start.

Strength, power, balance and application in the sporting environment must be worked on in conjunction with each other.
