Last week I was working with the England Volleyball Cadet squad and their coach Denise Austin was talking about gaining "the edge". We were looking at how these young players could develop over the next few years.
One of the things we were trying to install was that we can't predict how good they are going to be, or whether they are going to make it in International sport. Neither can they.
What we are all in control of is how we behave and how we train day in, day out.
Lots of our athletes use our 5x5x5 principles as a starting point. The idea is to do 5 minutes of 5 different exercises, 5 times a week.
Some embrace it, others say they "don't have enough time".
5 minutes a day, 25 minutes a week, 52 weeks a year is 20.67 hours.
20.67 hours of training is a 5 day camp.
You can get the edge over your opponent by getting that extra camp in that they won't do.
